Taiwan earthquake disaster Afghanistan $1 million humanitarian aid

Taiwan has decided to provide emergency humanitarian aid worth 1 million dollars (about 1.3 billion won) to Afghanistan, which was hit by the earthquake.

According to Taiwan News on the 24th, Taiwan’s foreign ministry announced on the evening of the previous day that it would provide $1 million to aid victims of the earthquake in Afghanistan.

The Taiwanese government has agreed to respond to requests for assistance from Afghanistan and the international community, the Taiwan Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a press release.

Taiwan added, however, that it decided not to send a rescue team to the site after considering the disaster situation and difficulties in accessing the local area, and listening to opinions from other countries.

Taiwan News reported that no Taiwanese were affected by the earthquake.

The Taiwanese government added that it would continue to work with international partners to help Afghanistan earthquake victims.

Earlier, on the 22nd (local time), a magnitude 5.9 earthquake struck Paktika, a province near the Pakistan border in southeastern Afghanistan, causing a massive loss of life.

According to foreign media, the earthquake caused more than 1,000 deaths and more than 1,600 injuries.
