Taiwanese National Under Investigation for Suspected Fraud
(Central News Agency reporter Liao Wenqi, Taipei, 23rd) Nearly a month after 22-year-old Taiwanese Guo Yuxuan lost contact after he left for Shanghai, mainland China’s Taiwan Affairs Office said earlier that Guo Yuxuan was under investigation for “suspected” fraud.
The Mainland Affairs Council expressed deep dissatisfaction that the relevant unit had not yet notified Taiwan of restrictions on personal freedoms.
Regarding the statement of the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, the Mainland Affairs Council indicated that whether a person named Guo in Taiwan has been confirmed to be involved in the relevant criminal case, based on the presumption of innocence and protection of rights. In the interest of the concerned parties, it hopes that the relevant departments of the Chinese Communist Party will provide a detailed explanation of the case as soon as possible and ensure that people named Guo enjoy legal rights and protection.
Guo Yuxuan lost contact after he arrived in Shanghai in late August and his relatives and friends were unable to contact him, and they rushed to publish a missing person’s notice online.
According to public information sent by his relatives and friends, Guo Yuxuan cut off contact after entering Shanghai on August 27. It is only known that he planned to move to Hefei, Anhui province after arriving in Shanghai.
Liang Wenji, deputy chairman of the Mainland Affairs Council, said at a regular press conference on the 19th that Guo Yuxuan traveled to the mainland with friends and his family members reported the case.
