(Central News Agency reporter Huang Ziqiang, Kuala Lumpur, 22nd) Today is World Earth Day. The Penang Branch of the Malaysian Taiwan Chamber of Commerce responded to the Earth Day Million Tree Planting Project. More than 40 Taiwanese businessmen planted 2 trees on the banks of Sungai Rambai. 10,000 orange trees, and proceeds from future harvests will be donated to the Bukit Mertajam Emergency Rescue Team Activity Fund.

Malaysian China News reported that representatives in Malaysia, including Ye Feibi; Chairman of the Penang Branch of the Malaysian Taiwan Chamber of Commerce, Xu Shangzhi; Chairman of the Penang Youth, Sports and Health Committee, Wei Zisen; and President of Penang Students Studying in Taiwan, Huang Zongda, and Taiwanese businessmen were also present. In his speech, Ye Feibi said that Taiwanese businessmen have invested and operated in Malaysia for decades and created 400,000 job opportunities for Malaysia, second only to Singapore and Japan. This time, Taiwanese businessmen not only responded to the call to plant trees, but were also the only overseas groups to participate, fully demonstrating Taiwanese people’s enthusiasm for social welfare and local affairs.

She pointed out that the Taiwanese Chamber of Commerce in Penang is very active. Its investment industries cover the fields of electrical machinery, electronics, semiconductors, machinery, metals and plastics, and it also interacts closely with the local government.

In addition, Taiwanese businessmen in Penang actively participate in social welfare. Ye Feibi said that during the COVID-19 (coronavirus disease 2019) epidemic, they also urgently donated RM850,000 (approximately NT$5.51 million) to provide local hospitals with purchase-related supplies. Medical equipment and equipment, and donations of masks and other anti-epidemic materials, fulfill social responsibilities, comply with the spirit of ESG (environment, society, corporate governance), and support environmental protection, green energy and sustainable development with practical actions.

Xu Shangzhi said that Taiwanese businessmen and the people of Penang are working together for environmental sustainability and fighting climate change. Today’s event also symbolizes the close connection between Taiwanese businessmen and Malaysia, and jointly implement the social responsibilities of environment, society and corporate governance.
