Fierce fighting between Taliban and Afghan Defense Forces in Afghanistan’s Panchsheer province. All access to the province is under Taliban control. Former Afghan Vice President Amarullah Saleh has said the Taliban have cut off power and telephone connections.
UN Security Council calls for immediate end to hostilities Saleh tweeted that he wanted to intervene. Ahmed Masood, the leader of the defense forces, is reported missing. Panchsheer is the only province in Afghanistan that the Taliban have not yet captured.
