Taliban Unleashes Wave of Deported German Convicts Back onto Afghan Streets

Taliban Unleashes Wave of Deported German Convicts Back onto Afghan Streets

Germany Deports 28 Afghan Criminals, Taliban Releases Them

A week ‍ago,⁢ Germany deported a plane with 28 Afghan criminals to Afghanistan. Now the men should be free again.

According to a high-ranking Taliban official, the criminals being deported from Germany are now generally in Afghanistan. First,⁢ the people were ⁢checked, said Suhail Shahin, head of the Taliban Politburo in the ‌Qatari capital Doha. “They were released after their families assured in writing that they would not commit any crimes,” said the representative of the German Press Agency. Inquiries to the ministries in the Afghan capital, Kabul, have remained unanswered.

Last Friday, for the first time since the‌ Taliban came to power three years ago, a deportation flight from Germany⁢ to Afghanistan took off on a plane operated by Qatar Airways. The 28 deportees were convicted criminals⁢ who did not have the right to remain‍ in Germany ⁤and were subject to deportation orders. Union politicians called for more deportation flights.

According to‍ the Al Jazeera news channel, the Gulf Emirates of Qatar mediated between the German government and Taliban commanders for the deportation. Germany does not ‍have diplomatic relations with the Taliban in Kabul. So far, no country in the world has officially recognized the Islamic government. The group is internationally isolated, especially because of its⁤ disregard for⁤ human rights and especially women’s rights. Qatar had already mediated between the West and the Taliban in the past.

This is the first time since‌ the Taliban came to power in August 2021 that Germany ⁢has deported people to Afghanistan. Federal ⁣Interior Minister Nancy Faeser emphasized that⁢ there was no direct connection with the Taliban⁤ and that the deportation was organized ⁢through partners.

The deportation ‌has sparked concerns about the⁤ safety and human rights of⁢ the deportees, as well⁤ as the implications for Germany’s relations with the Taliban. The German government has stated that ⁤it will continue ‍to ⁤monitor the situation and ensure that the rights of ⁤the deportees are protected.

The Taliban’s decision ⁣to release‌ the deportees has raised questions about the effectiveness of the deportation and the ability of the Afghan government to ensure the safety and security ⁣of its citizens. The international community‍ continues to watch the situation closely, as it ‍has significant ⁣implications for global security and human rights.
