Terrorist organization Al-Qaeda reports death of leader in Yemen

He headed the al-Qaeda branch in Yemen for four years. Now the group has reported the death of its leader Khalid al-Batarfi – and announced his successor.

The offshoot of the terrorist organization Al-Qaeda in Yemen has announced the death of its leader Khalid al-Batarfi. In a video shared by the group on social media on Sunday (local time), the regional leader was shown wearing a shroud. Nothing was said about the circumstances of death.

A successor is also known

Al-Batarfi was at the head of the al-Qaeda branch on the Arabian Peninsula for four years. The USA had him on the terrorist list and had offered a reward of five million US dollars (almost 4.6 million euros) to Al-Batarfi.

In the video, Saad bin Atif al-Awlaki was announced as the new leader. The USA is also offering a reward of up to six million dollars (around 5.4 million euros) for him.
