China’s electric vehicle “overcapacity” is being dumped around the world, which has also affected Tesla’s sales, Tesla founder Musk sent an email to all staff this afternoon (15th) to lay off 10% of workers across the world

Tesla has cut about 10% of job opportunities in 2022. Musk issued an email to company executives halting all global recruiting, saying that based on the pessimistic economic outlook, Tesla needs to cut about 10% of his jobs and increase the number of hourly workers. Musk further revealed in a follow-up email that the layoffs would not apply to any workers who actually manufacture cars, battery packs or install solar products.

In February of this year, Tesla’s top executives were said to have been asked to identify the “most important roles” on the team, and the company has also delayed performance reviews for some employees. According to three sources, the above work was later “rescheduled”.

In recent years, the pace of Tesla recruitment has slowed: the number of new Tesla employees will be 29,000 in 2022, which has decreased to 12,000 in 2023.

According to a report by “IT House” earlier today, multiple foreign media reported that Tesla employees say that the company will hold a round of large-scale layoffs on Sunday, local time, involving up to 20% of employees. Seven Tesla engineers from Austin, Fremont and other places even said word had spread from Tesla’s office that “layoffs are about to begin.”

Tesla released production and sales data for the first quarter of 2024 earlier this month: a total of 386,810 vehicles were delivered, a year-on-year drop of 8.5%.

On average, analysts expected Tesla to deliver around 457,000 vehicles, with the predicted range varying from 414,000 to 511,000 vehicles As a result, actual sales were below the required standard. .
