Tesla gets German approval to build 2,000 test cars at Berlin plant

The production of Tesla in Germany seems to have taken another step forward. Foreign media said that although Tesla’s Berlin Gigafactory has not been completed, it has obtained a license from the Brandenburg state environment ministry on Tuesday to allow Tesla to start trial production of test vehicles at the factory. . However, the official operation of the Berlin Gigafactory has yet to be finalized by the German authorities yesterday.

The Brandenburg state environment ministry said Tesla asked to produce more Model Y test cars while it awaits final approval, and the ministry also approved Tesla to produce up to 2,000 test electric cars, up from 250 previously approved. The Brandenburg Ministry of Environment allowed Tesla to produce up to 500 bodies per week for 4 consecutive weeks, the press shop to process 6,000 parts for a total of 26,000 parts, and it also allowed Tesla to assemble and paint the parts.

Relevant departments have indicated that neither the parts nor the body produced during this period can be sold by Tesla, nor can they be used in the production and sale of vehicles. The whereabouts of these parts and bodies must be clearly reported, and evidence must be provided even if they are eventually recycled. While it’s impossible to estimate what Tesla will do with these pre-production Model Ys, at 60,000 euros each, 2,000 are worth about 120 million euros, and analysts don’t think Tesla will just scrap them.
