West Ham United striker Mikel Antonio Emiliano Martinez has been jokingly called a snake after being rejected from Lionel Messi’s shirt. The player said he asked for Messi’s shirt but Leon Bailey got it.
The Jamaica-Argentina match took place in September last year, a few months before the FIFA World Cup. Messi scored two goals in the last five minutes of the game to help his team to a comfortable victory in the game.
Antonio claimed he asked Martinez to help him get Messi’s shirt, but the Argentine gave it to Bailly. Speaking on the Footballers’ Football podcast, the West Ham star said:
“You know why? Since Martinez is a snake, ! I can’t believe it. I knew Amy Martinez before Leon Bailey. Bailey is just a teammate. I played with this guy 10 years ago, I was like, help me, give me Messi’s shirt. He was like, ‘I’ll see what I can do.’ Ten minutes later Messi’s shirt arrives and he gives it to Leon Bailly as I remember getting mine.
The star had received a lot of criticism for his celebration after winning the World Cup final.
