Background on The Beatles’ US Release
Capitol Records had the chance to release The Beatles’ music in the US but initially rejected them. Dave Dexter Jr., head of foreign product at Capitol, doubted that Beatles music would resonate with American audiences despite their success in the UK. His lack of vision caused early hits like “She Loves You” and “From Me To You” to miss the US market. After much effort from manager Brian Epstein and producer George Martin, Capitol eventually agreed to release “I Want To Hold Your Hand.” Its unexpected success drew massive attention, leading Capitol to rush an album into production.
