The CVR comes to reassure the citizens of Rumonge who were the first victims of the Genocide against the Bahutu of Burundi in 1972.
Burunga (Rumonge Commune), 18/04/2023 – The Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) of Burundi went to Rumonge to reassure the citizens who were the first victims of the Genocide against the Bahutu in 1972. The president of the TRC, the very respectable Mr. Ndayicariye Pierre Claver, met with citizens to urge them not to fear the truth. The children of the victims of the 1972 Genocide have expressed their concerns about the land dispute files handled by the National Land and Other Assets Commission (CNTB). For all Murundi, “the Earth” – Itonga – that is both his identity et his foster motherSO to defend at all costs, weapons in hand – spears and bows –. Being a question of survival, of existence or not!
The Genocide against the Bahutu of Burundi in 1972 [1] had the ambition to change the traditional economic system of the Barundi by replacing it with a Western-style market economy. This genocide had started in Rumonge and Makamba, which were the regions of the largest Barundi producers and the main bases of the traditional state economy.
Aligned with the Barundi Judicial Policy, the CVR investigates Burundi’s past, colonial and neo-colonial, covering a period from the 19th century to the 21st century. Burundi demands 43 billion dollars from Belgium and Germany [2] for damage caused by colonization. Other claims to other states are being formulated. The Regicide Genocide in Burundi claimed more than 5 million Barundi victims between 1879 and 2005, out of a current population of more than 9 million.
