(Seoul = Yonhap News) Reporter Go Yoo-seon = The education community unanimously expressed their welcome regarding the recognition of the death of a teacher at Seoi Elementary School in Seoul, which caused social outrage over violations of teaching rights last year.

Kim Dong-seok, head of the teaching rights division of the Korean Federation of Teachers’ Associations, said on the 27th, “I am glad that the news we desperately wanted has been delivered to education sites across the country that are busy preparing for the new semester,” and added, “We welcome the recognition of deaths in the line of duty that reflects the aspirations of teachers across the country.”

Director Kim said, “I hope that the recognition of death in the line of duty will serve as an opportunity to alleviate the grief of the deceased and his family.”

Baek Seung-ah, senior vice president of the National Elementary Teachers’ Union, also said, “It’s late, but it’s fortunate,” and added, “I hope that the recognition of Teacher Seo Icho’s death on the line will serve as a cornerstone for teachers to provide proper education.”

He said, “The Seoi Elementary School incident, which led a cumulative number of over 800,000 teachers to the streets, showed the real face of schools where teaching authority has fallen,” and “The result of the cries of teachers across the country to correct the collapsing education system is today’s recognition of deaths in the line of duty.” “He said.

Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education Superintendent Cho Hee-yeon also wrote in a statement, “An important decision has been made to protect the honor of Teacher Seoicho and respect all teachers as an education expert,” and “I will not forget Teacher Seoicho and the teachers who devoted themselves to education for even a moment.”

“I hope that today’s decision will be an opportunity for the educational community to embrace each other and stand up again,” he said. “As promised, I will protect teachers with a tight and thick ‘safety net for protecting educational activities.’”

He expressed his welcome by mentioning that an elementary school teacher who was assaulted and died on the way to work on Dule-gil in Sillim-dong, Gwanak-gu, Seoul, was also recognized as a person who died in the line of duty.

However, the education community expressed its regret that the Ministry of Personnel Management did not acknowledge the death of a teacher at Gunsan Elementary School in Jeollabuk-do who died last year.

In addition, it was pointed out that the government needs to more actively support the preparation of supporting documents for bereaved families during the deliberation process for deaths in the line of duty and improve the system to take into account the uniqueness of teachers’ work.

Kim Dong-seok, head of the Korea Federation of Teachers’ Associations, emphasized, “We call for recognition (of the Gunsan teacher’s death in the line of duty) through a retrial,” and added, “To prevent such sorrow from happening again, a system to protect teaching rights and an improvement in the recognition system for the death of a teacher must be made.”

Previously, the Federation of Teachers’ Unions, the Federation of Teachers’ Unions, and the National Teachers and Education Workers’ Union held a joint press conference to announce that the government would set up a support system for bereaved families for applications for teachers who died on the job, and that content directly or indirectly related to ‘violation of teaching rights’ would lead to approval of compensation for public service accidents. He urged that the recognition system for deaths in the line of duty be improved, including allowing it to be done.

The Ministry of Education said, “Each office of education has designated a person in charge of reviewing deaths in the line of duty, and we are supporting the preparation of supporting materials to ease the burden on the bereaved families.” Starting this year, we will encourage former teachers to actively participate in the process of recognizing deaths in the line of duty, including field investigations, and ensure that teachers’ duties are protected. ·Policy research to analyze the relationship between disease and death is also scheduled to be launched in March.”
