The family of Ahmed Fathi Sorour arrives to receive condolences at the Mosque of Field Marshal Tantawi

The family of the late Ahmed Fathi Sorour, former Speaker of the People’s Assembly, arrived a short while ago at Field Marshal Tantawi Mosque to receive those arriving to offer their condolences from public and political figures and fans of Dr. Ahmed Fathi Sorour.

Dr. Ahmed Fathi Sorour died at the age of 92, as his son Tariq Fathi Sorour announced on his Facebook page.

Ahmed Fathi Sorour has assumed the presidency of the People’s Assembly since 1991 and for 21 consecutive years.

The son of the late legal jurist, commenting on the death of Ahmed Fathi Sorour, said on his Facebook page: To God we belong and to Him we shall return. Today, the night of the twenty-seventh of Ramadan, God has restored his deposit. A symbol of the law has passed away, with a judicial, legal, diplomatic, executive, parliamentary, and professional history. And internationally.

Ahmed Fathi Sorour’s son continued in his post: “The man with a good heart has passed away. He spent all his life serving his countrymen, especially the simple ones, feeling their pain and sorrows. Farewell to the teacher, the caring father, and the good role model after a life full of scientific and social giving. Oh God, on this blessed night, forgive him.” And have mercy on him, pardon him, honor him, honor his abode, widen his entrance, purify him from sins as a white garment is purified from filth, protect him from the temptation of the grave and the torment of hellfire. Oh God, put his deeds in the balance of his good deeds. Oh God, he was a follower and listener of your book, soft-hearted, tolerant. Oh God, compensate him for every pain that befell him with a paradise as wide as it is. The heavens and the earth. Oh God, with your mercy, place him in a garden and a garden in eternal bliss and an abode of eternity.”
