The market share of the three domestic battery companies declined slightly… Even if all put together, it is lower than the Chinese CATL

It was found that the share of the three domestic battery companies in battery usage of global electric vehicles (EV, PHEV, HEV) sold between January and November of this year has slightly decreased.

According to SNE Research, an energy research institute, on the 29th, the total amount of global electric vehicle battery energy was 250.8 GWh (gigawatt hour), up 112.1% from last year.

LG Energy Solution’s battery usage was 51.5GWh, ranking second after China’s CATL.

From January to November, LG Energy Solution’s battery market share was 20.5%. This is a decrease of 0.7 percentage points (p) from the previous statistics of January to October (21.2%).

CATL of China maintained its No. 1 position in global battery usage with a market share of 31.8%, up 0.6%p from the previous year.

The gap in market share with LG Energy Solutions, the second largest, widened from 10%p to 11.3%p.

Japan’s Panasonic, in third place, recorded a slight decrease in market share to 12.5%, and China’s BYD in fourth place rose 0.5%p to 9.0%.

SK On, a domestic battery company, took fifth place with a market share of 5.8%, and Samsung SDI[006400]was ranked 6th with a share of 4.5%, down 0.1%p.

The combined market share of the three domestic battery companies, LG Energy Solution, SK On, and Samsung SDI, was 30.8%, down 0.8%p from the previous survey. This is lower than the market share of one CATL company (31.8%).

The share of battery usage is affected by the sales volume of car models equipped with batteries.

LG Energy Solution is Tesla Model Y (made in China), Volkswagen ID.4, Ford Mustang Mach-E, SK On is Hyundai Motor Company[005380] Ioniq 5 and Kia[000270] The Niro EV, EV6, and Samsung SDI will be installed on the Fiat 500, Jeep Wrangler PHEV, and Audi E-tron EV.
