[Reporter Hong Meixiu/Hsinchu Report]The Environmental Protection Bureau of Hsinchu City stated that in line with the Environmental Protection Agency’s plastic restriction policy, starting from October 1, chain beverage stores and non-chain beverage stores within the city’s jurisdiction are not allowed to provide plastic single-use beverage cups, including biodegradable PLA and Styrofoam cups made of decomposed plastic materials are not allowed. Remind the operators to abide by the policy. If there is any violation, a fine of NT$1,200 to NT$6,000 will be imposed in accordance with the Waste Disposal Act.
According to the Environmental Protection Agency, the Environmental Protection Agency announced on April 28, 2011 that the “Restricted Use Objects and Implementation Methods of Disposable Drinking Cups” stipulated that the implementation date for beverage stores not to provide plastic disposable drinking cups should be reported by the county and city competent authorities , released for implementation after approval by the Environmental Protection Agency. The Environmental Protection Bureau held 4 seminars this year, among which disposable drinking cups made of plastic also include biodegradable plastic PLA. The definition of beverage stores in the regulations refers to the sale or conditioning of beverages such as tea, coffee, or hot and cold drinks. Industries where customers drink, including tea shops, coffee shops, hot and cold drink shops, and stalls (shops, vendors) all belong to this category.
The Environmental Protection Agency pointed out that before the new system was introduced, 640 beverage stores in the jurisdiction have been checked and reminded to cooperate with the one-time drinking cup reduction policy, and 200 times have been completed. From October 1 this year, beverage companies are not allowed to provide one-time beverage cups. In addition to the regulations on the use of plastic beverage cups, chain beverage stores should display the words “bring your own beverage cups to save _ yuan” in a conspicuous place in the business place, and the price difference should be at least 5 yuan (inclusive).
