The power of the people in the vacancy ‘Jeju City’, who lost 5 games, is unpredictable in the next general election

As Jeju was omitted from the appointment of the Chairman of the National Organizing Committee (Chairman of the Party Council), the people’s power that became vacant, the ruling party’s concerns deepen before the next general election.

According to the people’s power on the 30th, the special committee for strengthening the organization (hereinafter referred to as the special committee) postponed the appointment of 26 places, including the Jeju City constituency, while solving 68 accidents.

The people’s power changed all party council chairmen in the Jeju region before the presidential election in September last year. The organization was reorganized under the system of Chairman Kim Yeong-jin from Jeju City, Kim Seung-wook from Jeju City, and Heo Yong-jin from Seogwipo City.

On June 1 this year, as a by-election was held along with the Jeju City Council general election in the local elections, Seung-wook Kim, chairman of the Jeju City Council, resigned midway and entered the primary party.

On the other hand, Jeon Sang-il, former chairman of the Jeju Provincial Party, who won the primary, competed in the primary election, but was defeated by current National Assembly member Kim Han-kyu, the the Democratic Party was strategically nominated, and was defeated in the local and general election by-elections.

After the presidential and local elections, the power of the people began to reorganize the Chairman of the National Party Committee, but the selection of personnel was postponed indefinitely following the conflict with the leader of the party Lee Jun-seok and the launch of the non-. capital committee.

Three people applied for the contest, which was barely held in June this year: Kim Seung-wook, former chairman of the Jeju City Council;

In the process, Kim Hyung-gyu, the former commander of Jeju General Support Headquarters, withdrew support midway through. In response, the Special Committee on Procurement held a process of additional public offering from November to prepare for the general election, but there were no new figures.

The chairman of the party council, who at the same time serves as chairman of the regional organizing committee, is a key regional organization organized by constituency for members of the National Assembly. The chairman of the party council has great influence over party members, so there is a high possibility of nomination in the next general election.

On the other hand, the Jeju City Council chairman vacancy, which started in May, without any successive appointments, which had been resumed with difficulty, eventually passed the year.

With the 22nd National Assembly election approaching in one year and three months, the red light has grown even bigger in preparation for the general election. People’s power was defeated in all five elections, starting with the 17th general election held in 2004.

Considering the three areas, it is a record of 15 losses. Unlike the Democratic Party, which is expected to be a box office success from the primary party, there is a growing sense of crisis within the people’s power that the next general election could also sink.

Furthermore, the Democratic Party of Korea has achieved a generational shift with Representative Kim Woo-nam (3rd term) in 2004, Representative Oh Young-hoon (re-election) in 2016, and Kim Han-gyu (first term) in 2022, but the power of the people is struggling even in discovering new political talent.

The situation in Jeju Sigap and Seogwipo City is not very different. It seems that the party itself is also aware of this situation and will start recruiting talent before the general election.

In the case of Seogwipo City, there are rumors that a former police officer is running for office. As it is known that the person in question is also considering whether to get involved in politics, it is expected that the rumors about running for office will become more concrete after the Lunar New Year holidays.

The Democratic Party of Korea is already reorganizing its organization so that three incumbent lawmakers can run for re-election. As competing candidates are mentioned for self-declaration, the attention of local politicians is focused on the main party.
