With the permission of center referee Matthias Jolanbeck, goalkeeper Robin Center opened the fast by drinking water provided by Musa. After drinking the water and shaking hands with the referee, Musa ran to hit the ball again. Netizens are praising this exemplary work on the field.

Following in the footsteps of Jolanbeck, another referee, Bastian Dankert, stopped the game to allow the player to break the fast. RB Leipzig-Hoffenheim were given a break during the match.

The German refereeing committee said in a statement that there was no general directive in this regard and that the players could be given the opportunity to break the fast as required by the month of Ramadan.
