Even on Memorial Day, which is a stepping stone holiday, ‘hot weather’ continues around the East Coast, including Yeongdong, Gangwon. There is not much news about rain across the country for now. It’s a real start to summer.

The Korea Meteorological Administration predicted on the 4th, “For now, the daytime temperature will rise to around 30 degrees, focusing on the inland and east coast, and it will be hot.”

For a while, the temperature will be similar or slightly above normal (lowest temperature 13-17 degrees, high temperature 22-28 degrees). On the morning of the 5th, the temperature is 14-20 degrees, and the highest temperature during the day is 23-31 degrees. On the morning of the 6th, the minimum temperature will be 13 to 20 degrees, and the maximum temperature during the day will be 22 to 31 degrees.

Temperatures are particularly high in the inland and east coast. In the central region, the highest temperature on the 4th was predicted to be 23 degrees in Incheon, on the west coast, 28 degrees in Chuncheon, Yeongseo, Gangwon-do, and 31 degrees in Gangneung, on the east coast of Yeongdong, Gangwon. Looking at the temperature in Yeongdong, Gangwon Province on the 5th and 6th, the temperature is very high at 27-31 degrees.

The high temperature of the East Coast is due to the ‘Phoen phenomenon’, where westerly winds cross the Taebaek Mountains and become dry at high temperatures. In the west coast area, the temperature is relatively low due to the inflow of the sea breeze as the west wind blows. Inland, the land surface heats up during the day, and the temperature rises further because there is no sea breeze.

The heat is expected to continue for at least another 10 days. According to the Meteorological Ministry’s mid-term forecast, there is no news of rain until the 14th. It was predicted that the temperature would be similar or slightly higher than normal.

On the afternoon of the 4th, there may be areas where showers of about 5 mm fall in northern Gyeonggi and inland and mountainous areas in northern Gangwon.

Until the 6th, the whole country will be mostly sunny. The metropolitan area and Yeongseo, Gangwon-do will be cloudy at times. Jeju will be mostly cloudy.

Between the evening of the 5th and the morning of the 6th, there will be places where it will rain in Jeju.

According to the National Institute for Environmental Research, the concentration of fine dust on the 5th will be ‘good’ to ‘normal’ in all regions. The metropolitan area and Chungcheongnam-do may be at a temporary ‘poor’ level in the morning. The National Institute for Environmental Research said, “The concentration is expected to be slightly high due to the accumulation of fine dust produced in Korea due to atmospheric congestion in most of the Midwest.”
