The discovery of the COVID-19 virus A new mutant in a small cluster in France called B.1640.1 is believed to have originated in Cameroon from the first patient.

A total of 46 mutations were found in this strain of virus, and there were 37 base deletions, resulting in 30 changes in amino acids and 12 disappearances.

Looking at only the amino acids on the spike protein, 14 changes and 9 are missing. The key sites found included N501Y and E484K. This change from the mutated location is expected to have an immune escape effect similar to that of omikron.
