There are fewer and fewer nurses in the healthcare sector!

The number of nurses in the healthcare sector is decreasing. In 2022 there were 30,910, in 2021 31,190 and in 2009 again 32,708. This follows from the data of the National Center for Health Information (NCZI). NCZI spokeswoman Veronika Daničová informed TASR about this.

“In 2022, there were 30,910 nurses working in the health care system, which represents a decrease of 280 nurses compared to 2021, but compared to 2009, it is 1,798 nurses less,” she specified.

However, the number of medical assistants is increasing. In 2022, they registered 5118. “Their number increased year-on-year by 488 persons, and compared to 2009, there was an almost five-fold increase in their number,” added the spokeswoman.

The number of doctors (in 2022 there were 20,234) and dentists (2,972) also increased. “Since 2009, 2436 doctors have been added. The number of dentists grew at a more moderate pace. Compared to 2009, their number increased by 339,” Daničová zoomed in.

A total of 118,363 people worked in the health sector in 2022. Of them, 87,833 were health workers, the largest share was made up of nurses.
