Thiruvananthapuram: Minister Roshi Augustine has said that he has not challenged the court in the Mullaperiyar case. The policy statement is concerned with the safety of the people. There is nothing in the policy statement that ignores the court. There is the government’s provision for the people. There is nothing in the policy statement that challenges anyone. There is no dispute. The hope is that the misunderstandings will end. Kerala’s concern was raised. Roshi Augustine said that he would go ahead with the talks with Tamil Nadu.

At the same time, Tamil Nadu came out strongly against the policy declaration speech of the Kerala Legislative Assembly that a new dam would be built at Mullaperiyar. The Supreme Court has ruled that the Mullaperiyar Dam has no security concerns. The part about the dam in the policy statement is contempt of the Supreme Court order. There is no need for a new dam as the Supreme Court has ruled that the dam is safe.

Tamil Nadu Water Resources Minister Duraimurukan said in a press release that he would oppose Kerala’s unilateral move to build a new dam. With this, it was ensured that the references in the policy statement will be raised in the Tamil Nadu court when the Mullaperiyar case comes before the Supreme Court.
