China is confident that the situation in Taiwan is under control and is not in a hurry to use force, Hong Kong’s South China Morning Post (SCMP) reported on the 20th.

The SCMP quoted Chinese government officials as saying that the Chinese leadership doesn’t see anything to worry about over Taiwan as long as it controls the overall situation.

SCMP explained that such content was also included in the remarks of Chinese President Xi Jinping at the U.S.-China video summit on the 15th and the third resolution of the Communist Party of China.

“We are patient and doing our best to achieve peaceful reunification, but we will take decisive action if the Taiwan independence divide provokes and even crosses the red line,” Xi said at the time of the meeting.

The Chinese Communist Party’s historical resolution emphasizes that it is China that takes the lead in cross-strait relations, and that the timing and opportunity to achieve unification depend only on the Chinese side.

The SCMP added that there are speculations that China could lose patience if Taiwan continues to seek independence.

Meanwhile, it is reported that a Chinese state-owned company is trying to acquire Hong Kong’s prestigious English-language daily SCMP.

Bloomberg News reported on the 6th that the Chinese government-owned Bauhinia Cultural Hong Kong Group Co., Ltd. (紫荊文化香港集團有限公司) is seeking to acquire SCMP.
