‘Thirimali’ is ‘Chirimala’; Review | Thirimali Movie Review

‘Tirumali’ is a word commonly used by people in Thrissur. The word means cunning and deceiver. Rajeev Shetty’s ‘Thirimali’ is the story of Baby, a lottery dealer who travels from Kochi to Nepal because of such a ‘Thirimali’.

Baby is a young man who thinks that his life is as unlucky as the lottery. The lottery shop, which is the only source of livelihood due to debt, is also losing money. That luck comes to the baby when the bankers even take the bed. Luckily, Baby did not meet to experience it. Because that ‘luck’ had come to Nepal from Edavanakkad.

In order to get it, the baby has to go directly to Nepal. Baby decides to go to Nepal as a last ditch effort to make a living. Peter, a friend of the gang, and Alexander, the so-called greedy pauper.

All three have their own problems. But that journey changes the lives of not only Baby but also Peter and his stepfather. ‘Thirimali’ is a laughing stock. Their journey ends where they realize that what they have never lived or seen is real life. The director was able to convey to the audience the culture of Nepal and their way of life unknown to the outside world.

The main attraction of the film is the performance of the trinity of Bibin George, Dharmajan and Johnny Antony. The timing and acting of the trio in comedy and emotional scenes should be highlighted. The character of Parinjappan will be another milestone in Johnny Antony’s career. Bibin showed a mature performance as a baby. Dharmajan gets his hands dirty in comedy scenes. The intro scene at the police station in particular made the theaters laugh.

The story, screenplay and dialogues are written by Xavier Alex and Rajeev Shetty. The director and screenwriter managed to take the film to another level by maintaining the travel mood in the second half.

The songs and background music of Sreejith Idavana are intertwined with the film. Lyricist is Vivek Muzakkunnu. Vivek’s lyrics are also beautiful. Rang Birangi sung by Bijibal is another visual feast.
