Traffic Accidents Decrease in Dammam, Saudi Arabia
A recent report from a traffic source has revealed a significant drop in run-over accidents in the first half of 2024. The data shows a 5% decrease in injuries and deaths compared to the same period last year.
The number of run-over accidents has decreased to 132, resulting in 153 injuries, whereas last year witnessed 134 accidents, resulting in 157 injuries. Furthermore, fatal accidents have decreased to 58 this year from 72 last year.
Implementation of Pedestrian Crossings and Safety Measures
To improve traffic safety, 7 pedestrian crossings have been implemented in Dammam, including one at Al-Ahsa, Khalifa Abu Bakr Road, and others at strategic locations. Additionally, 5 separate iron fences have been installed to control pedestrian movement and ensure authorized crossing points.
Quiet bumps have also been implemented in Mantajah neighborhood and Al-Shuala neighborhood to reduce accidents and enhance traffic safety.
Improving Traffic Safety Efficiency
Traffic safety efficiency has been increased in Dammam, Al-Ahsa, and Hafar Al-Batin, with over 185 intersections and 28 pedestrian crossings installed. Engineering improvements have been made on 300 kilometers of roads, and more than 220 government facilities, such as schools, mosques, parks, and government offices, have been upgraded.
Al Sharqiya Municipality has implemented 28 pedestrian crossings on roads to ensure user safety, reduce accidents, and enhance traffic safety on main roads and public roads. The municipality continues to implement the program to improve road safety, studying road traffic safety and identifying high-traffic areas to find appropriate engineering solutions.
The municipality prioritizes creating a safe environment for road users, applying the best standards used in the field of traffic safety. By identifying and addressing high-traffic areas, the municipality aims to reduce accidents and save lives.
