According to the Al Jazeera broadcast on the 26th local time, 13 people, including 7 children, were counted dead in a stampede accident that happened the day before at the Mahamasina Stadium in Antananarivo, the capital.

This is an increase of 1 from the 12 deaths confirmed the previous day.

The number of deaths could rise because 11 of the 85 injured are said to be in a serious condition.

According to the Madagascar authorities, at around 4:30 pm the day before, dozens of spectators to watch the opening ceremony of the ‘Indian Ocean Islands Games’ at the Mahamasina Stadium immediately rushed to the entrance, and dozens of people were crushed by the crowd, result in death or injury.
