Beijing: 48 people died in heavy rain in China due to vehicle accidents on the highway. More than 20 vehicles fell down. Some caught fire.
The accident happened around 5.30 am on the Meizo-Dabu highway in Guangdong province. Because May 1st was a holiday, there was less traffic on the road reducing the extent of the accident.
A 17.9 meter section of the road was damaged. Part of the highway was hit due to the accident. There has been heavy rain and flooding in the region for two weeks. Four people died and 10 people went missing in the floods.
