According to the Edith Cowan University Health Center and Law School in Australia, taking a holiday can positively impact people with mental health issues in many ways.

Based on this, the research team conducted an investigation into “how tourism can help people with dementia”. As a result, lead researcher Dr Jun Wen said: “Exercise has been linked to mental well-being and travel is often accompanied by improved physical activity, including walking more.”

Furthermore, unlike usual, when traveling it is often a social gathering where several people eat together, and meals in this family atmosphere have been found to have a positive effect on the eating behavior of dementia patients.

Additionally, basics like fresh air and sunlight can help prevent dementia by increasing vitamin D and serotonin levels.

Based on the findings of this research, Dr. Wen said, “Tourism improves physical and psychological well-being,” and added, “Tourism is not just about traveling and having fun. We need to rethink the role of tourism in modern society.”

Meanwhile, when planning a trip, “dopamine” is secreted in anticipation of new experiences. This hormone activates the brain’s reward system, pushing us to take action and helps improve concentration and attention.

As a result, travelers are positively influenced by dopamine and can improve brain function in all phases of travel planning, from destination selection to itinerary modification.

Additionally, “serotonin,” also known as the “happiness hormone,” is secreted through the pleasure and satisfaction felt when eating delicious food and admiring beautiful scenery while traveling. Serotonin is useful for maintaining brain health because it makes us feel comfortable and balances the secretion of dopamine.

Consequently, by planning travel and experiencing new experiences in travel destinations, travelers can improve brain function and improve mental health, thus contributing to the prevention of dementia.

If you are going to travel, I hope you have a positive mind and are happily preparing for your trip.
