Trump and Harris Lose Crucial Backing: Drivers’ Union Abandons Support, Dealing Blow to Democrats
Teamsters Union Breaks with Democrats, Ends Support for White House Candidate
The International Brotherhood of Teamsters, a powerful truck driver union in America, has announced that it will no longer officially support one of the candidates for the White House. This decision marks a significant break with the union’s quarter-century tradition of supporting Democratic candidates.
Representatives of the union, which has 1.3 million members, met with a prominent candidate, Ms. Harris, on Monday to discuss the union’s stance.
Historically, the Teamsters have consistently supported Democratic candidates in every election since Al Gore’s presidential bid. The union has previously backed notable Democrats, including John Kerry, Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, and Joe Biden. However, the union has also shown bipartisan support in the past, having endorsed Ronald Reagan in 1984 and George H.W. Bush in 1988, as well as Bill Clinton in 1992.
Recent polls released by the union indicate that its members are leaning towards supporting Donald Trump, a significant shift in the union’s traditional allegiance.
