updated June 06, 2025
The United States and China are set to resume high-level trade talks in London on Monday, according to President Donald Trump. The renewed discussions come amid ongoing friction between the two economic superpowers over trade and technology.
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent will lead the U.S.delegation, which also includes Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick and U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer. Trump expressed optimism about the meeting’s outcome in a post on Truth Social.
The upcoming meeting follows a phone call between Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping. Both nations temporarily eased tariffs on goods after previous trade discussions in Geneva last month. however, tensions have persisted.
China has voiced concerns over U.S. actions, including warnings against using Chinese semiconductors and the revocation of visas for some Chinese students. The U.S., in turn, has accused China of delaying the approval of rare earth exports.

What’s next
the London talks aim to address these sticking points and possibly pave the way for a more comprehensive trade agreement. Further developments are expected as discussions unfold.
