Trump Order Targets Gender-affirming Care for Minors

Former President Donald Trump, in January, signed Executive Order 14187, officially titled “Protecting Children from Chemical and Surgical Mutilation.” The order directed federally managed insurance programs to exclude coverage for gender transition treatments for minors. It also aimed to prevent institutions receiving federal grants from providing such care.
Trump also tasked the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) wiht producing a review of existing research on best practices for addressing “identity-based confusion” in children within 90 days. While a judge subsequently blocked the ban on federal funding, the review was published on May 1.
