Man Charged with Attempting to Kill Former US President Donald Trump
A federal court has charged a man suspected of trying to kill former US President Donald Trump with two weapons-related crimes.
The suspect, identified as Ryan Roth, 58, was arrested after being found carrying a rifle on the former US president’s golf course in Florida.
According to authorities, Roth was arrested about 40 minutes after the attempted murder, while he was driving his car on the highway.
Initial charges include possession of a firearm as a convicted felon and possession of a firearm with an unknown serial number.
Secret Service Investigation
The Secret Service announced that the suspect “did not open fire” and did not have the former president in his sights.
Local police chief Rick Bradshaw said, “The suspect was not supposed to shoot, and we arrested him and referred him to the Department of Justice.”
According to his phone tracking, the suspect spent about 12 hours around Trump’s golf club before he was spotted.
FBI Investigation
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has confirmed that they are considering the incident as an attempt to assassinate former US President Donald Trump.
FBI Special Agent in Miami Jeffrey Veltri told reporters that investigators are tracking the suspect’s movements this month and monitoring his activity on social media.
President Biden’s Response
US President Joe Biden said that political violence has no place in the US.
President Biden urged Congress to provide the Secret Service with more resources to protect the nation’s president, presidential candidates, and dignitaries.
Trump’s Response
Former US President Donald Trump said that speeches by President Biden and his Vice President Kamala Harris were the reason behind the shooting.
Trump added that the suspect acted on very inflammatory language issued by Democrats and confirmed that the suspect believed the speech of Biden and Harris and acted accordingly.
