Trump Threatens 100% Tariff ⁢on Canadian Goods Over Potential⁢ China Trade‌ Deal

President Donald Trump warned Canada on Saturday, January 13, 2026, that‌ the U.S. would impose a 100% tariff on all Canadian goods entering the United States if Canada finalizes a trade agreement with China. The ⁤threat was made via a post ⁢on Trump’s Truth Social account.

“If Canada makes a deal ⁣with China, it will promptly be hit with a 100% tariff against⁣ all Canadian ⁢goods and products coming into the U.S.A.,” Trump wrote.Source: Truth Social

Trump also alleged that China would attempt to⁢ utilize Canada ‌as a conduit to circumvent ‌U.S. tariffs. He specifically referenced Governor Carney, stating, “If Governor Carney thinks he⁢ is going to make⁢ Canada a ‘Drop Off Port’ for China ‍to send goods and products into the ⁢United States, he is sorely mistaken.”

The warning follows an ⁣announcement earlier in January 2026⁤ by Prime Minister Mark Carney that Canada and ⁣China had reached ‌a preliminary agreement to reduce trade barriers.
