Six months into a war triggered by a surprise wave of US and Israeli strikes on February 28, the two nations remain deadlocked. Tehran has kept the strategic strait closed to commercial vessels, attacking ships attempting to cross. Meanwhile, Washington maintains a naval counter-blockade. While President Trump asserted that the US Navy holds total control of the waterway and announced last week that explosives-clearing operations were complete, Iran insists it remains in charge of the sealane. The Iranian Revolutionary Guards reported Monday that a rogue oil tanker caught fire near the strait after hitting two mines while navigating an unauthorized route.

Regional Missile Attacks and Diverging Casualty Claims

Following the US action on Larak Island, Iran launched retaliatory ballistic missile and drone strikes targeting American military personnel in Jordan and the United Arab Emirates. The Iranian Revolutionary Guards claimed the barrage on two US air bases in Jordan caused heavy damage. However, Jordan’s army reported that it intercepted eight incoming missiles without identifying their origin.
