Xi responded by confirming his intent to continue their relationship, announcing that Beijing would soon send two pandas to a zoo in Atlanta as a traditional symbol of diplomacy. Xi noted that while Washington and Beijing may not resolve every global challenge, cooperation remains essential.

While rivalry does not need to be avoided, our contest ought to remain constructive and stay properly contained. Rather than a zero-sum struggle where someone wins and someone loses, it should function as a reciprocal pursuit of self-improvement.

Military communication was also a key focus of the meetings. Xi called for better and more regular dialogue between the two militaries to maintain stability. He stated that the two nations must hold the line of no conflict and no confrontation through candid and in-depth discussions.

Trade and Taiwan Relations

Trade discussions addressed market access for American farmers and ranchers, alongside Xi’s call for fair treatment of Chinese companies operating in the United States. The leaders are also expected to discuss the conflict involving Iran.

During their bilateral meeting, Xi urged the United States to show prudence and oppose Taiwan independence, according to a readout from Chinese state media outlet Xinhua. The Taiwan question remains a primary issue in bilateral relations, following a delayed U.S. arms package that Trump previously described as a negotiating chip.
