Trump Revokes Canada’s Invitation to “Board of Peace”
U.S. President Donald Trump withdrew Canada’s invitation to join his “Board of Peace,” just days after Prime Minister Mark Carney warned against economic coercion by global superpowers during a speech in Davos. Trump announced the decision Thursday night on his Truth Social platform.
“Dear Prime Minister Carney: Please let this Letter serve to represent that the Board of Peace is withdrawing its invitation to you regarding Canada’s joining,” Trump wrote.
Carney stated last week he intended to join the board, but financial details where still under discussion. Countries seeking a permanent seat on the board must pay $1 billion.
In his address at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, Carney argued that “middle powers” need to unite to counter pressure from larger nations.
“great powers have begun using economic integration as weapons. tariffs as leverage, financial infrastructure as coercion, supply chains as vulnerabilities to be exploited,” Carney said.
Although Carney didn’t identify any specific country, Trump responded by saying on the sidelines of the forum that “Canada lives because of the United States. Remember that, Mark, the next time you make your statements.”
Hours before Carney’s speech, Trump posted a critical message on social media.
