Witnesses detailed a fierce rivalry between the South Side Compton Crips and Mob Piru, factions tied to competing record labels Bad Boy Records and Death Row Records.
Davis described the shooting as an act of retaliation after Shakur and Death Row Records co-founder Marion “Suge” Knight’s entourage beat up Davis’ nephew at the MGM Grand hours earlier. While prosecutors do not claim Davis pulled the trigger, Nevada law allows the conviction of individuals who help others commit murder. Davis remains the sole living person who was inside the white Cadillac when the shots were fired.
