Typhoon Shantol: Maritime Warning Issued by Meteorological Administration

The Central Meteorological Administration issued a maritime typhoon warning for mild Typhoon Shantol at 8:30 this morning. According to the Meteorological Administration, at 8 o’clock this morning, the center position of Shantuo’er was 18.6 degrees north latitude and 124.3 degrees east longitude, which is about 510 kilometers southeast of Eluanbi.
Shantuo’er is moving northwest to northwest at a speed of 10 kilometers per hour. The central air pressure was 978 Hectopascal, the maximum wind speed near the center is 30 meters per second, the average storm radius of Category 7 winds is 120 kilometers, and the average storm radius of Category 10 winds is 50 kilometers.
The Meteorological Administration pointed out that according to the latest data, the intensity of Shantuoer has increased slightly in the past three hours. It is currently centered in the sea southeast of Eluanbi and is moving northwest to northwest. It will pose a threat to the Bashi Strait. In the future, the intensity will increase and the storm circle will be expanding trend.
Affected by the northeasterly wind and the cloud system outside the typhoon, it is easy to have short-term heavy rainfall. There is a chance of local heavy rain on the north coast of Keelung, greater Taipei, the eastern half of the area, Orchid Island, and Green Island. Pay attention to lightning strikes and strong gusts, and be careful in mountainous areas. Prevent landslides, rockfalls and surges in streams.
Typhoon Shantuoer’s Previous Impact
Typhoon Shantuoer made landfall in Kaohsiung in October. It was the first typhoon on record to make landfall in Kaohsiung at noon. The typhoon resulted in 2 deaths, 1 missing person, and 219 injuries in Taiwan.
