Typhoon Swallow: Taiwan Prepares for Heavy Rain and Strong Winds

The Central Meteorological Administration has announced that a low-pressure system will form off the east coast of Taiwan today, strengthening into a potential typhoon by the weekend. According to current predictions, Typhoon Swallow, the 17th typhoon this year, may bring heavy rain across Taiwan, particularly in the north and east.

Meteorologist Lynn D’N has published an analysis on the “Teacher Lynn Weather Station” Facebook page, stating that the chance of intensifying into a tropical depression or typhoon is up to 80%. If it develops into a storm, a Category 7 storm will have a circle radius of at least 100 kilometers or more and intensity of at least mid-level or greater.

Experts predict that as the typhoon approaches, the pressure gradient caused by the northeasterly winds will increase rapidly, and sudden strong winds will also be quite evident in the north, northeast, east, and west coasts of Taiwan.

Weather Forecast

The Meteorological Administration has indicated that northeasterly winds will have a gradual effect today, and humidity will increase in the windward direction. Tomorrow, northeasterly winds and more moisture to the windward, with occasional brief showers or thunderstorms north and east of Taoyuan along the north coast of Keelung, mountainous areas of Greater Taipei and Ye and Hua regions.

On Saturday and Sunday, northeasterly winds will strengthen, and under the influence of tropical depression or peripheral cloud system of typhoon, short-duration rain or thunderstorms will continue in northern and eastern regions. Windward, and precipitation will be more persistent in the North and Ilan.

Humidity will increase from today, northeasterly winds will strengthen over the weekend and a tropical depression will be in place next week and the area and intensity of rainfall will still vary.
