UAE Midday Break for Foreign Workers to End on September 15
Dubai: The midday break for foreign workers in the UAE, which began on June 15, will come to an end on Sunday, September 15, as guided by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation.
The midday break rule, which prohibited work from 12:30 pm to 3:00 pm, was part of an integrated system implemented by the ministry to provide a safe working environment and avoid worker injuries and compensation resulting from working in high temperatures during the summer. The ministry reported a 99.9% compliance rate among companies, with over 6,000 breaks provided across the country for distribution service workers.
Mohsen Al Nasi, Assistant Under-Secretary for Inspection Affairs, praised the country’s labor market for its commitment to implementing the government’s decisions, citing the partnership strategy adopted by the Ministry in its relationship with the private sector.
The ministry conducted around 134,000 inspection visits during the curfew period to initiate initiatives aimed at reducing workers’ risks of heat stress in workplaces. Only 51 offenses were recorded, highlighting the effectiveness of the midday break rule.
