UAE Donates $15 Million to Support Palestinian Refugees in Jenin Camp

Dubai: UAE Pledges $15 Million to Aid Palestinian Refugees in Jenin Camp

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has pledged a generous $15 million donation to assist the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) in addressing the pressing needs of Palestinian refugees residing in the devastated Jenin camp.

This crucial financial support from the UAE makes it the first country to lend a helping hand to UNRWA in the aftermath of the extensive destruction witnessed in the Jenin camp. The funds received will enable the agency to undertake essential emergency rehabilitation and repair work, focusing on key areas such as the UAE camp, the agency’s health center, and the homes that have been either demolished or severely affected.

Following Israel’s two-day military operation, which concluded on July 4, the infrastructure in the region has suffered significant damage. Roads, water systems, and electricity networks have been severely impacted, exacerbating the challenges faced by Palestinian refugees.

At present, meticulous assessments are being conducted to determine the scale of the damage and the financial requirements for restoring crucial services, repairing damaged infrastructure, and offering immediate aid to refugees who have lost their homes or are facing significant displacement.

Dubai: UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed told UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini that the UAE will donate US$15 million to help the agency meet the urgent needs of Palestinian refugees in the Jenin camp.
