Ukraine Launches Massive Drone Blitz on Russia as Strikes Kill 10
Ukrainian forces fired almost 800 drones in one of their largest aerial salvos of the war, targeting Moscow and multiple other regions in an operation aimed at bringing the consequences of the conflict directly to the Russian public, according to official reports.
The overnight operation marked the second-largest attempted drone attack recorded since January 2025, according to an Associated Press tally. The Defense Ministry in Moscow reported that air defenses intercepted 791 Ukrainian drones across several Russian regions, annexed Crimea, and the Black and the Azov seas. The scale of the barrage followed a similarly large salvo launched just two days prior.
Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin stated on the Russian social media platform Max that more than 600 Ukrainian drones flew toward the Moscow region alone. According to Sobyanin, 180 of those drones were shot down between Monday evening and Tuesday at 5 a.m. local time, with emergency services deployed to areas where debris fell.
Impact and Damage in the Moscow Region
While officials reported no fatalities or major structural collapses in the capital, the surrounding Moscow region sustained property damage and fires. Governor Andrey Vorobyov reported that three people were injured in the region.
A strike ignited a fire at a warehouse belonging to Wildberries, Russia’s largest online retailer, located in an industrial zone and near Atlant-Park in the Bogorodsky district. Ukraine has repeatedly targeted distribution depots belonging to the company, asserting that the facilities help supply the Russian military. Wildberries stated that its facility sustained insignificant damage, and regional authorities confirmed that the resulting fire was contained. Governor Vorobyov added that two private homes were damaged and several smaller fires broke out across the region.
Deadly Counter-Strikes in Ukraine

As the drone blitz targeted Russian territory, Russian missile strikes caused significant casualties and destruction inside Ukraine. A missile strike on the village of Pechenihy in Ukraine’s northeastern Kharkiv region killed 10 civilians and wounded 17 others, according to preliminary information provided by Oleh Syniehubov, head of the Kharkiv regional military administration.
Describing the event as a vicious raid, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted that the bombardment harmed a post office, a store, a cafe, 10 residences, and a minimum of seven automobiles. Writing on social media, Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine will definitely respond to the strike. Separately, Ukraine’s National Police reported that three people were killed and three others were wounded over the past day in Russian attacks in the Sumy region, which involved both drone strikes and an explosive device blast.
Strategic Intent Behind Kyiv’s Drone Campaign

Over the past year, Kyiv has developed and deployed domestically produced long-range drones capable of striking deep inside Russia, technology that has drawn international defense attention. Ukrainian officials have pursued the strategy to pressure Russian President Vladimir Putin into negotiating a peace settlement by making the war’s consequences felt by the domestic Russian population.
Diplomatic efforts remain stalled as the conflict continues past its four-year mark. In a message shared on the X platform, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha condemned ongoing military aggression from Moscow, remarking that Putin continues to drag out the war instead of accepting Ukraine’s realistic ceasefire proposals and ending the bloodshed.
