An official from the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) told Reuters on this day, “We carried out drone attacks on three Russian oil refineries in Ryazan, Kstvo, and Kirish in Russia overnight.” He continued, “Judging by the video, the consequences of the attack were significant.” These three factories are major oil refineries in Russia.

The Russian Ministry of Defense acknowledged Ukraine’s large-scale drone strike, saying it had destroyed 58 Ukrainian drones in six Russian regions. The Governor of Ryazan, Pavel Malkov, also announced that a drone had attacked an oil refinery in the region, causing a fire and injuries.

On the 12th, the day before, Ukraine carried out 25 drone attacks on various regions, including fuel facilities in the central Russian city of Nizhny Novgorod, and the western city of Oryol.

CNN analyzed that the Ukrainian series of air attacks were carried out not only to destroy oil facilities in the inland areas of Russia, but also to emphasize the impact of the war on Russians during the presidential election period.

Meanwhile, Russia’s presidential election will be held for three days starting on the 15th. Russian President Vladimir Putin, who has ruled Russia for 24 years since 2000, including when he was prime minister (2008-2012), will extend his rule until 2030 if he succeeds in his fifth term.

According to a Russian polling company, President Putin’s fifth term is almost certain. On the 11th, Russian public opinion research center Vchiom predicted that President Putin’s expected vote rate would reach 82%. The percentage of the expected vote for the other three candidates was only 5-6%.

In a video address to the nation, President Putin urged participation in voting, saying, “We need to confirm our unity and our strength.”
