British Clergyman Warns Americans: Avoid Repeating the Mistakes that Led to Britain’s Spiritual and Political Demise

Calvin Robinson, a British Catholic clergyman who settled in the United States after serving as a parish priest in Michigan, warned Americans to avoid repeating the mistakes that he claimed were leading to the destruction of his homeland.

Losing Common Sense

Robinson said his recent choice to settle in western Michigan was more of a calling than a decision, though he said he was glad to have left the United Kingdom at a time when the country was facing spiritual collapse.

“I’ve been called to a parish here, to full-time parish ministry. I’m just thankful. It seems like the UK has started to implode and lose all sense,” Robinson said.

Robinson noted that many inmates were released from prisons in England and Wales to ease overcrowding, but the government is threatening to lock up citizens for posting on social media.

He launched a strong critique of government authorities, claiming they had allowed foreign-born “grooming gangs” to prey on British girls with impunity for years.

Crumbling House

Robinson goes on to point out that the spiritual forces that destroyed Britain were also active in other countries in the Western world as they rejected their Christian roots.

“What we now call ‘the West’ used to be called Christendom because it was built on Christianity,” he said, adding that secularist intellectuals have been trying to pry Christ away from the center of Western civilization since the Enlightenment.

“Essentially, they are trying to remove Christ from Christianity,” he said. “Of course, when you pull out the foundation, the house eventually collapses. That’s what we’re seeing in the West right now.”

A Huge Shame

Robinson said Christianity in Britain began to decline in the early 20th century around World War I and never recovered, noting that the decline was exacerbated every time the Church of England gave in on key doctrinal issues.

Robinson was not ordained by the Church of England because of his conservative theological views. He then joined the Old Catholic Church and publicly criticized the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby.

“The Church of England has become very liberal on divorce, sex outside marriage, same-sex relationships, transgenderism and so on. Every time the church tries to become more inclusive it actually becomes more exclusive of Christianity and Christian values and more inclusive of secular values, which only deteriorates further and goes downhill,” Robinson said.

Hope for the Future

While Robinson’s assessment of Britain and the world is arguably sobering, he remains hopeful.

“I’m not despairing at all,” he said. “Despair is a sin. There’s no point in despairing. As I said, empires rise and fall. So when this empire – the British Empire or Western civilization – falls, it’s our responsibility to think big and remember that God has his plans and he allows things to happen for a reason.”

“So this season may well be coming to an end, but there will be another season,” he continued. “So we have to be part of that. We have to be part of the restoration. We have an eternal hope, so our eyes are naturally set on the eternal kingdom that is coming.”

He added, “But we still need to do everything we can to advance the kingdom of God here and now.”
