Ulsan Councilman Advocates for ‘Downsisa’ Road Name Reflecting Dual Regional Identity
ULSAN – A member of the Ulsan Jung-gu Council is urging officials to adopt the name ’Downsisa’ for a new road connecting the Dong and Epic areas within two public housing districts. The councilman argues the name encapsulates the distinct identities of both regions.
Councilman Moon Ki-ho’s Proposal
Councilman Moon Ki-ho, in a written inquiry to the Jung-gu Office on Oct. 1, asserted that the road, which originates in the Down-dong area of Jung-gu and extends to Seosari in ulju-gun, should bear a name that is both neutral and representative of the two areas it connects.
“among the nominations put forward by both Jung-gu and Ulju-gun, ‘Downsisa’ is the most fitting,” Moon stated.
Road Naming Process
The road in question, traversing the northern and southern sections of the Down 2 public housing district, begins at 64-7, Down-dong, Jung-gu.
In March, Ulsan City requested preliminary road name suggestions from both Jung-gu and Ulju-gun. Jung-gu submitted ‘downsisa-ro’ as one of its proposals, while Ulju-gun offered ‘Downsisa’ and ‘Shinseosa’.
ulsan City is scheduled to make a final decision on Oct. 15, considering residents’ opinions regarding road names that span multiple districts and counties.
Rationale for ‘Downsisa’
Councilman Moon emphasized the convenience and accuracy of ‘Downsisa,’ as it incorporates elements of both regions the road serves.
Jung-gu Office Response
The Jung-gu Office responded by stating, “We will actively present our opinion to Ulsan City to select ‘Downsisa,’ a name that reflects the identity of both regions, ensuring impartiality in the road name selection process. We deeply recognize the importance of this.”
