North Korea’s Rodong Sinmun said: “Vitamin D is an important nutrient. “It is especially important for women,” the report said on February 16. “Women should avoid vitamin D deficiency because they are at high risk of developing osteoporosis.”

The Rodong Sinmun states that vitamin D is also important for pregnant women because it plays an essential role in the normal development of the fetus.

He explained that the main source of vitamin D is sunlight, but that vitamin D can also be obtained through food. He pointed out that the recommended daily intake of vitamin D through food is approximately 600 IU (international units) and that if you do not receive sunlight, you should consume 1,000 IU of vitamin D per day through food.

Rodong Newspaper introduced that vitamin D can be consumed through mushrooms, fish, seafood, eggs, etc.

Mushrooms contain vitamin D₂ and vitamin D₂ increases vitamin D levels in the blood, but the effect is not as high as that of vitamin D₃.

He further explained that fish is rich in vitamin D and that salmon is an oily fish and contains 680 IU of vitamin D per 100 g. Fish that increase vitamin D levels also include herring, sardines and flounder. He also added that seafood such as shrimp and oysters are also good sources of vitamin D.

Rodong Newspaper introduced that egg whites are a rich source of protein and that the yellow egg contains many vitamins, minerals and fats, including vitamin D. It was explained that the vitamin D content of eggs laid by raised chickens indoors it is around 18-39 IU, but free-range chickens can lay eggs with a vitamin D content of 6,000 IU.
