Unlocking the Power of Traditional Healing: Daegu University of Oriental Medicine Partners with Uzbekistan Pediatric University to Revolutionize Medical Education
Daegu University of Oriental Medicine Conducts Overseas Education in Oriental Medicine
Daegu University of Oriental Medicine has successfully conducted overseas education in Oriental medicine for local traditional medicine students in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. This initiative was made possible through the ‘Overseas Education and Training Support Project for Oriental Medicine’ supported by the Korea Institute of Oriental Medicine.
Professor Song Ji-cheong of the Department of Oriental Medicine delivered a comprehensive lecture on ‘Human Meridians and Clinical Practice in Oriental Medicine’ to 40 third and fourth-year students of the Department of Traditional Medicine at Tashkent Pediatric Medical University. The lecture combined theoretical and practical aspects of Oriental medicine, providing students with a holistic understanding of the subject.
This course is part of the regular curriculum for the Department of Traditional Medicine at the Tashkent Pediatric Medical University. Given the positive response from traditional medicine students who are eager to learn about acupuncture theory and practice, the university plans to offer 1 major credit to students who complete both the 4-hour face-to-face class in mid-October and the 7-hour online class in November.
Daegu Haany University has been actively collaborating with Tashkent Pediatric Medical University since signing an MOU in May 2022 on overseas education and training in Korean medicine. The partnership has led to the exchange of students and professors between the two institutions, with around 10 students and professors visiting Daegu Haany University every year for a short-term seasonal semester.
President Byeon Chang-hoon emphasized the significance of this initiative, stating, “This is the first overseas education in Korean medicine modeled after the K-MEDI Silk Road development since our university was selected as a global university.” He further added, “We will work to build the K-MEDI Silk Road through the industrialization, scientization, and globalization of Korean medicine.”
