Unraid NAS OS Adds Wi-Fi Support,Improves Drive Pool Import
Unraid, the Linux-based network-attached storage (NAS) operating system, has released version 7.1.0, introducing several key enhancements. The update brings Wi-Fi connectivity, improved import capabilities for drive pools from other systems, and various bug fixes.
Wireless Networking Now supported
Perhaps the most notable addition is support for wireless networks. while a wired connection remains the preferred method, Unraid 7.1.0 now allows users to connect via Wi-Fi when a wired connection isn’t feasible. according to the release notes, this version ”adds support for wireless networks to import the ability of Truenas and other foreign pools, various improvements to the VMS and first steps towards a responsive webgui.”
Initial setup requires a local monitor and keyboard to boot into GUI mode, or a wired network connection. Developers plan to integrate the ”USB Creator” function to configure the wireless network before the initial startup process. Currently, Unraid supports only one WLAN interface, which cannot participate in a network.
enhanced ZFS Pool Import
The new version also streamlines the import of foreign ZFS pools from systems like TrueNAS, Proxmox, Ubuntu, and QNAP. Rather of the first partition, Unraid now imports the largest one. Error corrections include the re-display of deactivated drives in the dashboard. The update also incorporates the Nouveau graphics card driver for VMs, though it is indeed disabled by default, as the developers anticipate most users will prefer the NVIDIA driver. CPU pinning is now optional.
User Interface and Kernel Updates
Developers have initiated changes to the user interface to enable a responsive design.Additionally, some ad blockers should no longer interfere with the dashboard. The Linux kernel has been updated to version 6.12.24, incorporating custom patches.
About unraid
Unraid transforms commercially available hardware into a customizable NAS system. It offers greater flexibility compared to pre-built or manually configured NAS solutions from vendors like QNAP or Synology, allowing the use of any drives. Unlike customary RAID systems,Unraid enables the use of drives of varying sizes without sacrificing capacity. It also promotes energy efficiency by allowing inactive drives to enter sleep mode, reducing overall power consumption.
