Reported by Political Center/Liang Bochao and Zhong Ruting
Weiqing Group Chairman Shen Qingjing, Kuomintang Taipei City Councilor Ying Xiaowei, and former Taipei City Deputy Mayor Peng Zhensheng were detained in the early hours of the morning on the 2nd. The case has been ruled to be returned without bail, and the prosecutor is expected to file a protest in the near future.
Taipei City Committee Executive Secretary Shao Xiupei was interviewed as a defendant on corruption charges. After nearly 10 hours of questioning by the Independent Commission Against Corruption, he was transferred to the Beijing Prosecutor’s Office for further questioning.
Shao Xiupei’s detention is related to the Beijing Huacheng scandal, in which former Taipei City Deputy Mayor Peng Zhensheng was also detained and barred from visiting. The Northern Court discovered that Shao Xiupei was suspected of being a key accomplice in the case.
The Beijing Municipal Government clarified that Shao Xiupei took two weeks off to go to Japan and returned home on the 1st before he was interviewed. There is no evidence to suggest that he was “on the run for fear of crime.”
The North Court stated that the information about Shao Xiupei “seeming suspicious and fleeing for fear of crime” is based on the prosecution’s evidence gathering. The investigation will continue according to the progress of the District Prosecutor’s Office investigation.
Shao Xiupei was restricted from overseas travel and residence after the hearing. The prosecutor invited him to return at 4 a.m. on the 3rd for further questioning.
Everyone should be presumed innocent until proven guilty according to the law.
