US Secretary of State Confirms Ukraine’s Recovery of Territory from Russia, Anticipates Future F-16 Jet Delivery

US Secretary of State: Ukraine Recovers Territory Held by Russia

The Secretary of State of the United States, Anthony Blinken, announced on Sunday that Ukraine has successfully regained territory previously held by Russia. Approximately 50 percent of the population has returned to the recovered areas. However, Blinken acknowledged that the anti-offensive operation in Kiev will continue for several more months.

“They’ve managed to reclaim about 50 percent of the territory that was initially taken,” Blinken informed CNN. “Though it is still in the early stages, the offensive operation faces significant challenges and will not yield immediate results. Based on our assessments, we believe it will take several months to accomplish our objectives.”

Amidst a retaliatory attack on Ukraine, which the Russian side claims has failed to make any progress, officials in Kiev have called for increased military support from their Western allies, particularly in the form of F-16 aircraft supplied by the United States. They believe that these aircraft will play a crucial role in countering Russian air power.

Although Western supporters of Kiev have announced a Ukrainian pilot training program to operate the latest aircraft, no official approval has been granted to proceed with the introduction of F-16s.

In this regard, Blinken expressed his confidence that Ukraine will eventually receive F-16 fighter jets from the United States. When asked about the aircraft’s delivery, Blinken stated, “I believe it will happen. However, our main focus is to ensure that appropriate training is provided and that they possess the necessary skills to maintain and operate the aircraft efficiently.”

Meanwhile, an 11-nation coalition has initiated training programs for Ukrainian pilots to fly F-16 fighter jets in Denmark starting from August. Additionally, a dedicated training center will be established in Romania.

Ukraine has long been seeking the acquisition of Lockheed Martin-made F-16s, but a final decision regarding their delivery has yet to be made by Washington. US officials suggest that it may require at least 18 months for the necessary training and preparation.

General Mark Milley, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the United States, recently stated that it may take years to train Ukrainian fighters on F-16 aircraft, emphasizing the importance of financial support and assistance in maintenance and operations. This will enable Kiev to effectively respond to Moscow’s air power capabilities.
