USD/JPY Climbs as Trade Optimism Weakens yen
Updated June 11, 2025
The USD/JPY pair is currently trading around 145.00,approaching a two-week low for the yen. The Japanese currency faces persistent pressure as demand for safe-haven assets decreases, spurred by growing optimism surrounding U.S.-China trade negotiations.
Positive signals from U.S.-china trade talks have reduced market anxieties. Recent meetings were described as productive, with ongoing discussions. Preliminary agreements may involve China easing export restrictions on rare earth metals, while the U.S. could relax controls on technology sales to China. This improved international habitat has lessened the yen’s appeal as a safe haven, bolstering the dollar.
Japan’s producer price inflation saw a 3.2% year-over-year increase in May, the slowest in eight months, indicating reduced cost pressures in production. Though, Bank of Japan Governor Kazuo Ueda stated the central bank is ready to raise rates if core inflation around the 2% target is sustainable.

Technical analysis suggests the USD/JPY is moving upward from support at 144.00, targeting 145.50. A pullback to 144.00 is absolutely possible after reaching this level. A break below 144.00 could lead to a move toward 142.20, perhaps extending to 140.50. Conversely, a breakout above 145.50 could open the path to 146.25. The MACD indicator supports this bullish outlook.
Short-term analysis indicates an upward wave structure toward 145.50, with a corrective move to 144.00 expected afterward. The Stochastic oscillator confirms this momentum, signaling continued upward movement in the near term.
What’s next
Looking ahead, the USD/JPY’s movement will likely depend on further developments in U.S.-China trade relations and any shifts in the Bank of Japan’s monetary policy. Traders should monitor key resistance levels at 145.50 and 146.25, as well as support at 144.00, 142.20 and 140.50.
